POSTCARDS

An artist friend in Oregon and I started a sharing of painted postcards after I moved to Malaysia in 1997. The 11-year project meant sending a postcard every Monday to Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and finally Vienna. Each summer we reestablished the direction of the annual postcards from weekly and/or monthly topics to identical monthly bags of collage materials. Our project kept our thoughts and art experiences flowing, our strong friendship connected. After the project ended with over 1030 small paintings in 2011, ‘postcard withdrawal’ had me sending my weekly postcard home to myself in Oregon. The problem was that I was in Vienna! While not completed every Monday, the continuation of my postcard-sized paintings gave me a venue for conversing with my visual voice; a means for processing life through historic reflections and current observations, concerns, humor and global curiosities. These smaller sized paintings represent a few examples of the collection. Small = 10x15cm/4”x6”; 100 Medium = 12.5 x 17.5cm/5”x7”;120 Large = 15x20cm/6”x8”;150)
